BIC Workshops held on 21-22nd June 2012

The successful BIC workshops, whose main purpose was enhancing coordination and information sharing across the variety of bi-lateral International Cooperation (INCO)
activities sponsored by the European Commission, were held on 21st and 22nd June 2012 in Brussels. As BIC spans multiple countries with a unique multi-lateral profile, this particular workshop was designed by BIC to bring together multiple projects and stakeholders that are already engaged in International cooperation with the intent to:
• Explore the insights and common experiences across projects;
• Identifying, discussing and assessing (a) key challenges, issues and priorities; and
(b) mechanisms for international cooperation that are already available;
• Explore possible synergistic approaches for mutual collaboration, cooperation and organising future joint INCO research activities and its supporting programmes.

This set of BIC workshops over two days focussed on both the strategic multi-lateral coordination of the cross domain activities within international cooperation and the tactical bi-lateral activities underway in Trustworthy ICT. The event was the launching workshops of the three BIC Working Groups (WGs):
1. WG1. Human oriented /citizen trust, privacy and security, which focuses on topics related to a multi-disciplinary approach for international cooperation amongst all stakeholders;
2. WG2. Network Information security / Cybersecurity, which focuses on topics related to the need for international cooperation for enabling the protection of networks and systems;
3. WG3. Programme /funding focus/ identify community, which focuses on the requirements, processes, mechanisms and barriers to enable collaboration opportunities.

The Digital Agenda Assembly – Online engagement is very much welcomed from the trust and security constituency

The European Commission would like the trust and security community to actively participate on the online consultation on the European Strategy for Internet Security at:

http://daa.ec.europa.eu/content/special/discussion-european-strategy-internet-security.

The online activities are particularly focused on nine topics:

1. Convergent media platforms

2. High-speed connections

3. E-commerce

4. Social media

5. Data and content

6. Cloud

7. Security

8. Innovation and entrepreneurs

9. Jobs and skills

To follow the discussions, just click on the relevant workshop. To take part in the discussion, choose a topic/workshop and login.

The aim is to collectively identify relevant evidence, inspiring examples and insights for policy action relevant to the Digital Agenda, focusing on the 9 key topics listed above. These discussions will feed into the Digital Agenda Assembly on 21 and 22 June in Brussels and the mid-term review of the Digital Agenda to be published later in the year.

From the people participating in the online discussion, there will be selected up to 5 persons from each topic and invite them to the Assembly, i.e. the persons making the most valuable contributions. For every intervention you can click on the “interesting!” button (similar to the “like” in Facebook). Participants are asked to signal any interesting intervention by clicking on the button.

So, have your say in the debates going on in each group; bring evidence and inspiring examples; and signal which interventions are most valuable.
